What is the Senior Leadership Program?
Senior Leadership is a volunteer program that gives youth placement opportunities within the Boys & Girls Club of London. The goal of this program is to encourage youth to get involved in their community, build confidence and leadership skills, and help prepare them for future employment, and/or post-secondary.
Once enrolled in the program, each Leader will choose a stream based on their interest. They will be assigned a placement in their stream for one semester and will be required to commit to attending placement once a week, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (virtual an in-person opportunities). They will work closely with a coordinator or staff who will be in charge of guiding and teaching them. They will gain first-hand knowledge and experience in their field. As well, twice during the semester, they will attend special training/workshop sessions geared towards their interests which will help them better hone their skills and engage with their peers.
5 Leadership Streams
Leaders will: work with youth, lead games and activities, work with recreation staff, and learn how to plan for and facilitate recreational programs for children.
Leaders will: work with youth, assist lifeguards in conducting swimming lessons, support students in their swimming abilities, and instill confidence in young swimmers.
Leaders will: work with children, adults, and parents, work directly with BGCL administration, and be a representative for the BGCL.
Leaders will: work in a kitchen setting, help serve food to members and visitors in Supper Club, learn about food-handling, inventory, and kitchen management, and learn about kitchen safety. Some hours can be counted towards a Red Seal designation.
DCAC (Digital Creative Arts Center)
Leaders will learn how to use audio-recording equipment, learn how to record music in a live-music performance, and learn microphone best-practices and techniques.
This is an incredibly unique program that offers Leaders the opportunity to give back to their community, gain valuable skills, and explore different entry-level employment as well as career options. It strengthens interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. It also helps Leaders make connections with staff in the Boys and Girls Club and has the ultimate goal of helping students become as successful as possible in whichever path they choose. It is a great way to make friends and become a positive role model within their community.
Shifts are available weeknights from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and weekends from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Shift availability will differ by stream. Semester run from September to January, February to June, and July to August. If you or your youth is interested in joining the Senior Leadership program, please contact:
