What is the Junior Leadership Program?
The Jr. Leadership Program is a competitive, leveled program that focuses on introducing elementary school students in grades 6-8 to topics and experiences that will encourages skill building in a variety of areas. Each grade will be given a specific theme that they will focus on, with each theme building on knowledge from previous years. Jr. Leaders are expected to attend a weekly session, as set out by the Leadership Coordinator.
When is it offered?
Grade 6: October 16th, 2019-December 4th, 2019
Grade 7: January 15th, 2020-March 4th, 2020
Grade 8: March 25th, 2020-June 10th, 2020.
Junior Leaders will cover the following topics each year of their participation in the program. Each year the program will address a specific theme per grade level: Exploring Team Work, Mastering Active Citizenship, and Introduction to Leadership.

Junior Leadership Program Progression
1. Grade 6 - Exploring Team Work
Junior Leaders in Grade 6 will focus on building skills that will support them to work effectively within a team! As a team they will plan and run a community event at the end of the year where they can demonstrate their learning.
2. Grade 7 - Mastering Active Citizenship
Junior Leaders in grade 7 will focus on and discuss ways they can be actively involved in both their local and global communities. In addition to weekly sessions, Jr. Leaders will act as peer mentors to younger children at the club.
3. Grade 8 - Introduction to Leadership
Junior Leaders in grade 8 will begin their transition into the Sr. Leadership program by attending weekly sessions and running one session themselves! In addition, participants will act as peer mentors to younger children at the club and complete a minimum of 5 shadow shifts with a Sr. Leader prior to the summer. During the summer months, Jr. Leaders transitioning into high school will have the opportunity to work in camp on a volunteer basis.
